When the god Osiris was murdered his wife Isis would not let this stand. She had powers that would enable her to resurrect her slain husband but she would first need to know the name of the murderer. Isis began an inquisition to uncover this answer. One of her tools was a golden rope which once her suspect was ensnared could only yield the truth.
Isis forced a confession from Osiris’s brother Set and proceeded to resurrect her dead husband. Once Zeus heard of this amazing spectacle he sought to gain this insurance for himself and seduced Isis. During one such tryst Zeus used the golden rope upon Isis herself and asked her deepest secret, “What did she desire from him most.” This sculpture is exactly that. Isis’s desire to be made vulnerable to Zeus, helpless but to enjoy his desire. Once Princess Diana was conceived from this union Isis hid the fact from jealous Osiris by convincing Hippolyta to serve the role. Isis gave the infant Diana the golden lasso as a remembrance of her true birth mother and her secret love of Zeus.
This is a lifecast of a nude model bound in rope. The mold was used to cast this sculpture in urethane resin for light weight and strength. Set to hang on the wall this is one of my favorite pieces. I had envisioned this piece a year ago. After several attempts and weeks of finishing the final cast I present “The Fall of Isis”
